We designed and developed this three-storey brand new house build during the spring and early summer months of 2018. It was a tricky brief considering it was in a conservation area and access to the site was really tight.
Comprising of a lower ground floor with 2 large bedrooms, shared bathroom and utility room. Ground floor with kitchen/diner, lounge and W/C. The 1st floor master suite has a generous size bedroom, walk-through wardrobe and a lovely bathroom. We started in March 2018 by pulling down the old garages to create space for the new development. Then the hard work started. We excavated just over 1000 tonnes of earth to make way for the lower ground floor. Attention had to be given to the adjoining property to ensure the foundations and stability of their property was not compromised.
Over 27 tonnes of steel reinforcement went into the concrete base and basement walls! Once the concrete slab was in place we built the walls and tanked them with a Bentonite clay membrane called Voltex – its self-sealing and repairs itself if it gets damaged! Modern technology eh?
As the development was in a conservation area we used reclaimed slate and locally sourced stone which has to be approved by the council. This particular stone was quarried and cut to our specifications just outside of Buxton. It has lots of different colours in it which look fantastic in the sunlight. Our stonemasons hand cut the sills, jambs and heads for the all windows. Some lovely sliding sash windows finish off this impressive build.
On the roof we hand cut fishtails onto some of the slates and laid them in bands across the roof. They give the house a bespoke finish which we love! We were helped along the finishing line with the best summer the town had ever experienced, the finishing touches were an absolute pleasure to apply and took the end result to the next level. We are incredibly proud of the result and look forward to achieving this standard with our next build.
